From Vienna to Bratislava is less than an hour by car. So it’s easy to combine a trip to both cities, and take advantage of the good airline connections to Vienna Airport.
Bratislava is tiny
With only 450.000 inhabitants, Bratislava is one of the smallest capitals of Europe. It has a nice middle-of-Europe atmosphere. Pedestrian only town centre. On the other hand, it lacks real attractions. Apart from the UFO bridge.
Stayed two nights in Radisson Blu Carlton hotel on the main square.
Cafe Kut
The cafe Kut was better than one would expect.
Tourist trap
This is one of the highlights of the city.
Lemontree Skybar
Near the old center square, Stare Mesto, we had dinner in Lemontree. A sky bar with outside terrace, but unfortunately it was too cold. While the restaurant can’t decide what it wants to be (Thai restaurant, mediterranean restaurant, cocktail bar, sky bar) we could recommend.
Downstairs they served Antichrist beer. Slovakian culture, maybe.
Boat to Vienna
Instead of a cab, we decided to go for the boat trip back to Vienna. Pretty fast and comfortable.
Die Heimat der Schnitzels
When in Rome, do as the Romans do. But when in Vienna, have a Schnitzel at the famous restaurant Figlmuller. A lot of fuss about it, but well – a Schnitzel is a Schnitzel. Somehow we were disappointed. Perhaps we assumed a Schnitzel would taste better here.
