We decided to skip the airplane and hit the road. Traveling by car gives flexibility and saves costs. We wanted to be flexible as we planned to visit two cities. First Leipzig, then Dresden.
For the first time we decided to take the car, instead of flying. One night in Leipzig, two nights in Dresden. It was a six hour drive to Leipzig. From Leipzig to Dresden is less than 1,5 hour.
The place was surprisingly relaxed. Stayed at Penta Hotels. The evening before, Die Mannschaft was knocked out of the World Cup Football tournament by South Korea. Everybody seemed to have a sort of hangover.
We had dinner at Gusto. It was a bad decision. It was deserted but expensive. It was located in a modern building. We had the idea we were having dinner in an airport lobby. Maybe we should have opted for the restaurant on top of the tower.
Next destination was Dresden. Bombed to the ground by Bomber Harris. But the city has been rebuild with good taste. It’s beautiful. The old buildings are in perfect shape, and the city is very pleasant. The contrast with last year’s destination (Thessaloniki) couldn’t have been bigger.
We stayed at Innside Dresden. It was clean and comfortable, and have bicycles for hire. The weather was great, so we decided to go for it. Cycling along the Elbe was great.
First restaurant was Elements Deli (Restaurant Elements). On a Friday night it wasn’t too busy. The staff was very young, and the food was mostly good. But we were served asparagus which weren’t done. We felt like rabbits trying to eat it. For a Michelin star restaurant, we expected a bit more.
Last restaurant was Genuss Atelier (Genuss Atelier). They managed to surprise us with great and surprises dishes. Service was great as well. Only downside was the garden terrace was next to a busy street, giving a lot of noise from busses and trams.
